cooking outdoors in the winter

It is a lot of fun (to cook outdoors in the winter).

Today I roasted a turkey (hanging up over some old stove chimneys), cooked a grilled cheese sandwich in a burlap bag, cooked dinner in a tin can over a fire, baked an upside down cake in a dutch over with briquettes, and made bannock in a tin oven.

It was really cool and I learned a lot!!! AWESOME!!!!

Skating with my niece.......

Today I took my niece to skating lesssons. I think she was confused as to which group she should go with but eventually we worked it out!

It was fun watching her skate. She wants to go skating with me this weekend but I am busy:-( At the end of her lesson the parents could go out and help them skate. That was fun!! (Although I was not actually wearing skates as my feet die when they are in skates....and I am in much much much pain.

In two weeks, I get to go again:-)

I cannot wait for next week! I will have to remember to watch it. The last time it was a continuation I completely forgot to watch it the next week....and then I remembered. (But I had to watch it really late.) Criminal Minds is definitely one of my favourite shows!!

Back in the habit

After a brief hiatus, I am back in the habit of posting on my blog. They may not be the most exciting posts but I have still made an effort (I guess).

It is fun and it does give me something to look forward to:-)

I am excited to see what the rest of my year brings....and hopefully there are a few people out there who are interested too:-)

Having fun......my style

You can take that to mean whatever you want it to mean. What is my style of fun? If you know me, you may have an idea....but you may be completely off base as well. Who knows?

Livng is for having fun...so if you aren't have fun, you aren't living!

(Yes, I know I am such a party girl, right?)

Saturday....living at home

It was another dreadfully cold day today (-28ish) and I had the luxury of spending it at home. It was nice and quiet and I could do whatever I wanted to!. It is awesome!

Living/Being at home on a Saturday is awesome! I highly recommend it!!

Freaky Fridays!

Today my sister got out of the hospital! She is now home after 1 week in the hospital. She is very excited to be out!!! Although......she does mention that she misses it as well.

But she is out!!!!! YAY!!!

swimming lessons with my niece

My sister went for surgery on Friday. She was expecting to get out of the hospital on Saturday. She is still in the hospital. As a result, I have been looking after my niece every night this week. Today I got to take her swimming....YAY!! She had a lot of fun (and she was the best one in her class of course....LOL I am just joking).

It was fun taking her to swimming even though she had to go to the bathroom as soon as we got there!!!

I love to try to guess what people are doing, thinking, feeling....especially if I do not know them.

It is interesting observing people and noting what they are doing. There are two people walking down the street with a dog, one person is holding a gift bag. It looks like the gift bag is open.

What was the gift?
Was it the dog?
Who got the gift?
Why?
Who gave the gift?

It is all very interesting and sometimes you can make up a whole story just by seeing a couple of strangers on the street...

Being happy!

There is nothing better than a happy day! Sometime you have to look beyond the things that get you down (ie. frigidly cold days...-37) and see the happiness in the life around you....

Today is a good day to think happy thoughts! What better day is there to appreciate everything you have going for you in your life....(When I got home, someone had shovelled behind my stairs!). These are the things that make you happy!! Appreciate them.....

mini golfing at work?

Today we got to leave work early to go mini-golfing!! It was awesome and a lot of fun!!! AND I won a prize! Our team won for the lowest score! We got a $25.00 gift certificate! YAY!!!

It was a lot of fun and I am glad I went...

It was a nice stress reliever too!!!!!

Shovelling snow?

There was another storm last night. We got lots of snow!! (I think there was between 20-30 cms expected but I am not sure how much we actually got.) The winds created HUGE snow banks...I guess I can't complain too much as my car was not actually buried! I had to walk/wade through snow up to my waist to get to my car this morning (and I had to do the same thing tonight when I got home). The drive to work this morning was slow.....really slow. I kept wondering why we were all crawling and then I would see someone go in the ditch. There is no such thing as a snow day where I am from. (We are tough!!! lol) The beauty of winter.....(and if you stop to appreciate it, it really is beautiful!)

Tonight when I got home, I shovelled for quite a while trying to get rid of the snow drifts. And you know....it is kinda fun.... I felt such a sense of accomplishment when I would look back on what I had just shovelled and see pavement! (It was really cool!....You gotta love that!)

Tonight it is supposed to go back down to -34 (it was only -18 today!).

Mondays

Mondays.....some people dread them, others hate them, and a select few live for them. I am none of the above.

So that must say something....

I obviously don't hate my job then. It is work and there are perks to it so yay. Mondays are a great opportunity to look at the upcoming week and see what is in store for you. For some, there may be alot. For others, not too much. But I love having the whole week ahead of me and anticipating what it coming ahead. Who knows? I guess we will just have to wait and see!!!

Travelling safely

I think travelling safely is something you take for granted if you get from Point A to Point B safely. Today I drove home safely (we only went in the ditch once....).

We started off in a snow storm but the roads were fine...a little icy but fine. We were almost home when my cousin went to take our exit and couldn't stop in time. It was not too drastic or anything...we just slid a ways and then when my cousin went to drive out, we were stuck. My sister and I pushed us out and we continued on. It was not bad at all!!!

(But it could have been worse!)

I definitely appreciate all the times I get home safely in bad weather!!!

(Which reminds me....I am off to check the weather now.)

Birthday weekends!!

We can go out and visit people to help them celebrate their birthdays! (Even though they do not like chocolate!! LOL)

Okay, considering there is 3 kids to take care of there is not that much partying to be had BUT at least we get to make a quinzee! (Although technically I am not going to go in the quinzee...but more on that later?)

My goddaughter

Today is my cousin/best friend's birthday! We went out to visit her on her farm. Her daughter is my goddaughter. She is 5. She is in Kindergarten.

She is also very cute! She is wanting to decorate her mother's birthday cake. I told her that it is a kind of cake that you do not need to decorate....she still wants to decorate it!!

She makes me laugh and smile! You gotta love that!!!!

A nice massage...

Okay, I admit it....I did not get a massage today BUT I could use one.

It is nice to have dreams though. Sometimes you do not appreciate something until you don't have it...

So to all of you who got massages today...

Connections...

I am totally surprised at how connected we all are to each other. So and so know so and so who knows so and so....etc. I am sure if we traced it we are all connected to everyone in this world!! Which is hard to explain why wars start......
or maybe that does it explain it?

I just try to remember that we are all connected, we are all humans, and that we all have one thing in common...

Christmas lunches (in January?)

Every year at work our team goes out for lunch. It is called our Christmas lunch but some years it has happened in May.

Usually December is quite busy in our department because of year end. After year end, quite a few people go on vacation so we usually do not go for our Christmas lunch until the new year.

We went for our Christmas lunch today!! I think it is the earliest we have ever gone! It was really good. The food was good but it was also a great time to get together as a group and relax and talk.

I got pajamas for Christmas (that is cool I know). I have been wearing them for about a week now and I LOVE THEM!!!!

Gifts

I gave my niece an educational game for Christmas. She played it for the first time today! I think she had a lot of fun playing it and hopefully she will play with it often!!

It is amazing to me how technologically savvy she is! She can do stuff on the computer that I can't do! (And she is only four!) How cool is that!!!

Real Life Heroes

There are so many people in this world who could be considered heroes. Some of them are obvious; emergency personelle, etc. But the ordinary heroes are cool as well. They people who help someone else without thinking. These are the people I look up to. (All heroes.)

I hope I am one too but something tells me I am not.

The Weather Forecast

I come from a province where the weather changes in the blink of an eye. In the summer time it is okay to not follow the weather religiously (lol), but in the winter time, it is all about the weather!! (especially this year)

We had a blizzard on New Year's Eve, and we had another blizzard today! The good news about today was that the weather was not too cold (only about -18ish Celcius or so). We are supposed to get about 20-25 centimetres of snow between today and tomorrow AND the tempature is supposed to drop to -30ish. (I know because I watched the weather forecast.) It is supposed to stay cold all weekend!

The good news - the weather will be warming about on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to about -15ish. The bad news - it is supposed to snow all week!

The joys of winter!!

I am glad I can check the weather forecast though and know what to expect! How great is that!!

A new year

I love the start of a new year!! It is awesome!

Just because you never know what the year is going to bring you...

I have plans for the upcoming year but who knows if they are going to come true or not?

It is looking into the unknown. It has a sense of mystery to it.

It is great! I would not change it for the world.
